The Competitive Me

The finish line...

Being a racing kind of guy, I'm tend to have a competitive behaviour, I tend to compare myself with others alot.

No matter in driving skill, career, studies, knowledge, abilities etc, I tend to compare them although I only kept the thought to myself and unable to do much about it.

I compare how long it takes to learn and master a track or a car, I compare how some of my peers are ahead of me in terms of studies, I compare how some of my peers are ahead of me in terms of career, I compare how some people I know have better knowledge about cars and racing, I compare how others are better than me in some sports, I compare how others manage to design something better than me, etc.....

While moderate comparison is good to promote motivation, it isn't in my case, because I'm over doing it and I can't expect to be perfect and better than others in every aspect. And this kind of comparison will only bring disappointment to oneself.

What I'm now striving towards is to enjoy the process and to compare with myself instead of keep comparing with others. It's like a race to the finish line, no matter who get there first, what is important is for oneself to enjoy the process of racing to the finish line.

One might compare how much he/she earns with how much his/her peers earn, but at the end of the day, what's important is "is how much you earn enough to satisfy yourself?" If you can live the life you want with that earnings, why make yourself unsatisfied by comparing it to others.

Competition is good but it can be intoxicating too, I have a friend who already able to earn a significant amount of money although still a student, and I feel that I'm always challenged by him to do more than what he's capable of. I'm glad I'm able to resist the challenge most of the time because what's important at the finish line is personal contentment, as I what I always like to say, "满足就好!"

Well written,
Most important thing is to make sure that you reach the final finishing line..
It's good to compare yourself to others, so you can have a benchmark, but you should also know that, it's ONLY a benchmark, you can either get close to it or go beyond it, but irrespective of the outcome, you should always challenge your own threshold.
